A Letter from Rev. Peggy Clarke
My Dear Members and Friends of Community Church,
It’s November when we get to lean into gratitude, the timing for which is perfect as we shift into the holiday season, the pledge season, and this weird transition moment we’re sharing at Community Church. We knew the 23-24 year would be a little uncomfortable as transitions always are when entering the homestretch. We are waiting for the sale of our buildings to be complete, which means our access to cash is limited and our budget is stretched as tight as we can get it. We knew it would happen, but that doesn’t make the reality of it any easier.
I am grateful, as I know all our leaders are, for the continued support so many of you have demonstrated as we wind our way through the maze of NYC real estate, an uncomfortable location for worship, the lack of gathering spaces, and so many other challenges. Without you, we are nothing. With you, we are everything.
The most beautiful part of this last year is the expansion of caring that’s happening among us. In the absence of physical space, our emotional space has grown. We have found ways to be together in our homes, to reach out to people in need, to create programs for those who are homebound, to show up when someone asks for help, and to demonstrate a sincere desire to build the beloved community, together. Our capacity for caring feels authentic and witnessing it is simply gorgeous.
In order for us to maintain our community, to keep our communications clear, to have a place to worship together, to share music and dance and crafting collaboratives and fellowship lunches, to maintain the container in which so many lovely things happen, we are going to need more financial support this year than we usually do. The next eight months are presenting a challenge, and your pledge will make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for your ongoing support for Community Church. I am forever grateful to be counted among you.
In Faith,
Rev. Peggy Clarke, Senior Minister
