Financial Resources
Offering scholarships to seminarians and grants to local social justice and community organizations is one way in which the Community Church lives out its values in the world. Since the late 1960s, we are proud to have issued over $400,000 in scholarships to more than 240 Unitarian Universalist seminarians through the John Haynes Holmes Memorial Fellowship Fund, named for our former Senior Minister (read more about him and his legacy on the History page).
The Ethelwyn Doolittle Justice and Outreach Fund provides financial support to organizations who provide direct assistance or advocacy to designated communities in need in the areas of human rights, civil liberties, racial justice and/or environmental concerns.
To learn more about these programs and find out if you are eligible to apply, see the below menu:

The John Haynes Holmes Memorial Fund, established in 1968, provides annual grants for Unitarian Universalist seminarians enrolled full time or part time at post-secondary institutions. Students must be preparing for careers in ministry or teaching in the denomination. Awards are based on both academic ability and financial need.
Three $8,000 grants are available for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The application deadline is April 15, 2025.
For additional information, contact Dylan Rice at drice@ccny.org or call 212-683-4988.

The Fund provides financial support to organizations outside of the Community Church of New York who provide direct assistance or advocacy to designated communities in need and have a 501-C3 designation. Their work must also fall within the areas of human rights, civil liberties, racial justice and/or environmental concerns.
Potential Grant recipients must be nominated by members of Community Church of New York UU in the fall of each year. We cannot consider organizations that apply without being nominated by a church member.
The Doolittle Committee will need the name, contact person, address, telephone, email and website of your nominee.
For any questions, or if you’re a member of the congregation and would like to make a nomination, please contact doolittleccny@gmail.com -
In the past, The Community Church of New York offered tax preparation services. Due to the sale of our sanctuary, we are currently unable to offer this service.
